What is an integrated tandem?

  • Frequent meetings to learn each other’s language and culture
  • Pairing:
    • VUB or UAntwerpen student taking a French course
    • ULB student taking a Dutch course
  • Advantages:
    • Use of the language within a specific course context
    • Increased motivation through personal contact with a peer of the same age

How to participate?

  • Go to the Language Tandems platform and find a partner
  • If possible, choose a partner with a similar language level

Activities

6 meetings of at least 2 hours:

  • Half of the time in each language, spread over 1 semester
  • Dates, times, and topics to be determined in consultation

An integrated tandem must include at least the following activities:

  1. A cultural activity (exhibition, museum, theater play, etc.)
  2. Attend a course of your tandem partner (course at ULB or VUB/UAntwerpen)
  3. Attend another course of your tandem partner (course at ULB or VUB/UAntwerpen)

Suggestions for other activities:

  • Meet at the cafeteria to discuss a free topic
  • Go to the cinema (preferably French- or Dutch-speaking film) and discuss it
  • Go to a restaurant together
  • Visit a city and explore its culture and customs
  • Cook a typical regional dish together
  • Practice a sport together
  • Guided campus tour
  • Attend a student party

Validation of an integrated tandem

  • Fill in and submit the activity report (VUB version) before the date provided by the course instructor
  • Illustrate each activity with a selfie with your partner
  • Attach another proof for each activity (ticket, etc.)
  • Create a short "selfie" video with your partner giving your opinion on one of the 6 activities
  • The final evaluation depends on the course you are taking. Check with your language coordinator
